Activities of the National Center for Equal Opportunities

• raising public awareness in the field of equal opportunities
• raising awareness through seminars and training sessions given by professionals from the public and private sectors, municipalities and other non-governmental organizations, who could have influence on implementing equal opportunity policies for women and men in the activities of the organizations they represent
• improving the quality life of women and their involvement in seeking solutions for improving conditions for themselves and their families
• realization of projects aimed at seeking conceptual solutions in the field of equal opportunities for women and men through gender mainstreaming strategies
• realization of projects aimed at the prevention and elimination of domestic violence through partnerships between non-governmental, public and state institutions
• cooperation with the media in changing gender stereotypes and prejudice and decreasing the tolerance of violence in society

The Main Activities of the National Gender Center

• The Center is carrying out a long term project entitled “Prevention and Elimination of Domestic Violence”, which is built on the partnership of non-governmental, governmental and professional organizations. The objective is bring to Slovakia information and materials aimed at legislative and systemic solutions of this problem gained in foreign countries and in cooperation with Slovak and foreign institutions. Another objective is to prepare details for creating a framework of multidisciplinary cooperation in dealing with domestic violence.
• The Center is involved in several international programmes aimed at the prevention and elimination of domestic violence.
